Caerleon-based Chris Spiteri and Son has been appointed to help support the transport arrangements for spectators attending The 2010 Ryder Cup at The Celtic Manor Resort, City of Newport, Wales, on October 1-3.

From the first practice day on Tuesday 28th September through to the final day singles on Sunday 3rd October, there will be 45,000 each day enjoying the golfing action. The majority of spectators will use parking facilities located at either the East Park and Ride (Llanwern) or the West Park and Ride (Tredegar House) and then travel by shuttle bus to the course.

The 2010 Ryder Cup will generate additional traffic volume and some degree of congestion is inevitable but keeping the access roads clear of breakdowns or obstructions is a key feature of the traffic plans, formulated in conjunction with the Highways Authorities and Gwent Police.

Local Vehicle Recovery Operator Chris Spiteri and Son will provide
several specialist vehicles from its fleet that will be located at key points on the access and egress routes to the Park and Ride sites, to give rapid assistance in the event of a vehicle breaking down or causing an obstruction.

Owner Chris Spiteri said; “This will be one of the most high profile events ever to take place in Wales and it is a privilege to be part of the transport arrangements and if necessary provide assistance to any of the spectators, whether they be local or visitors to the area.”

Edward Kitson, Ryder Cup Match Director, said; “We are aiming for our plans to not only cater for spectator and event related vehicles, but also to cause minimum disruption to the existing main roads, local residents and local businesses. We intend to create effective diversions for through traffic and optimise safety. Whilst hopefully there should be few, if any, breakdowns or problems on the access routes, having these resources in close proximity to provide a specialist and prompt response will be of great assistance.”
